After this Lance moved into the woodworking industry, first building a 200-employee company in Los Angeles from scratch, then running multiple 500-employee woodworking factories in China. Fast forward to 2007 when out of necessity Lance finally built his own Tele style guitar and subsequently came upon a request to build more. Since Lance had nothing better than to look for a new job at the time he said "Sure, why not?". More guitars soon followed and they sold immediately - sometimes within hours. This continued until it became apparent that this was the job Lance was really looking for. A job he felt passionate about, loved doing and quite possibly was one of the few things one could still make in the US successfully. So LSL Instruments was born. They are finding success with the delivery of every instrument. Lance kept making guitars that were scooped up as soon as they appeared for sale. Every time a new instrument was strung up and played it was love all over again. Each one he hated saying goodbye to and it wasn't long before their motto was born: "Never sell a guitar you don't want to keep." Click here to view the complete LSL Instruments section on DAG. HERE'S A SONGCLIP BY LANCE KELTNER Introducing the LSL T-Bone SA and SP guitars... 52.5 T-Bone SA. This is a T-style guitar made with a blackguard in mind. Made like blackguards were made. Each one is made with a Swamp Ash body, hand-shaped maple neck and LSL's own pickups. LSL pickups are hand-wound and are universally loved. The aim is for punch and twang and an even, clear tone from the neck PU. Each guitar is hand aged with years of gigging experience in mind at all times. All finishes are NC lacquer so they get even better with age. LSL makes their own bakelite pickguards and applies NC, rubbed-out finishes to them too. LSL guitars are light - typically the ash versions weigh in at between 6.8 to 7.5 lbs on the high side. Wood varies but they hand select it and are demanding in their weight requirements. These come in the traditional butterscotch, aged cream, or sunburst finish. All have the black, bakelite pickguard. 52.5 T-Bone SP. Like the T-Bone SA, the SP is a T-style guitar made with a blackguard in mind, but with one big difference - they have sugarpine bodies. These guitars are very light. The best adjective for their sound seems to be "Spanky". Great twang, and they tend to be a little brighter than the traditional Ash versions. These come in the usual butterscotch finish, aged cream and also a three-tone sunburst. Made like blackguards were made. Each one is made with a hand-shaped maple neck and LSL's own pickups. These puppies weigh in at around 6.5 LBS or under! Price for either guitar: $1949 (includes case & 3 Day Shipping) From a GUITAR FIXATION REVIEW: "There are endless amounts of Tele style guitars out there these days offered not only by Fender. What Leo created is both classic and timeless in its design and most importantly in its sound. Most guitar nuts agree that a vintage, pre CBS Fender is the Holy Grail by which all others are compared. But the LSL is all-together in a league of its own and I believe it can stand beside a vintage Telecaster in quality, solid construction, and tone." "You need to get one of these guitars NOW. The demand for them is only going to go up and I guarantee you that one-day you will proudly say that you got one of the early ones. To me, it is like the 1950’s again and you have the opportunity to buy what is sure to be a future classic. I can't say enough good things about this guitar, and as soon as you play one you will understand why." "I am happy to say that the LSL 52.4 T-Bone has been given Guitar Fixation’s first ever Editor’s Award in recognition of an exceptional product. This guitar not only exceeded my expectations, it redefined them. Congratulations to Lance and the entire LSL team, this guitar is among the finest I have ever played." - Click here to view the entire review.
