Nolatone Superbug
The Super Bug was born from requests to make the popular June Bug "giggable."
So, not to disappoint, Nolatone set out to satisfy that request, and what they came up with was a kicking grab-n-go beast with remote channel switching, independent volume and tone controls for each channel, and the same great overdrive controls found on the Junebug. This great preamp drives a more powerful output section that can deliver 15 watts with 6V6's or upwards of 30 watts with 6L6's or KT66s (yep, it can run all of these!). All this in a package that weights less than 30lb. As of April 2010, the overdrive (Wild) channel on new production units has been revised by replacing the tone control with a 6 position clicker switch, adding a "crunch control" which acts as a high/mid boost for the hot gain stage, and adds a global cut control. These changes are based on work being done on the upcoming "Black Tooth" model, which is an all out rock'n'roll amp. The result is a "Wild" channel that's more focused and coherent sounding with a definitive British vibe. With the flexible gain controls, 6 position clicker, crunch control, and cut control it's easy to dial up an incredible range of tones ranging from classic vintage Plexi to hot-rodded Marshall tones. This amp will even do the EVH brown tone nicely by engaging the crunch, opening up the gain controls and dialing the cut. It really opens the amp up to more tonal possibilities and now the amp offers two very distinctively different channels.
Another great feature on the Superbug is the "Nite Lite" (we named it first!), which is the result of an unlikely discovery made while tweaking the prototype one day. This is too cool not to include it.
It's called the "Nite Lite" (thanks Jon for coming up with the cool name!). It's is a switch with LED that puts the wild channel into "bedroom mode". Let the preamp rage with all the harmonics intact, but with very fine control of the volume giving incredibly gradual taper on the volume pot. This makes it easy to dial up bedroom levels all the way down to whisper volumes.
It's not an attenuator so it doesn't wear out the power tubes, and it's not power scaling, so no futzing around with the power supply, and best of all, it's included at NO EXTRA CHARGE!
