| The Pheo UN YOU ARE VIEWING A SALES ARCHIVE ENTRY - THIS GUITAR HAS BEEN SOLD. IT IS POSTED HERE AS AN EXAMPLE OF PAST SALES. PLEASE CHECK THE "NEW ARRIVALS" SECTION FOR INSTRUMENTS THAT ARE IMMEDIATELY AVAILABLE. No, you didn't forget to put on your glasses - This a one of a kind creation from contemporary artist Phil Sylvester. Phil brought us the Fractured Stratocaster and since has dedicated himself, and his new company, PheoGuitars to the creation of some of the wildest yet most extraordinarily functional "art guitars" and "art amplifiers" being produced today. Phil has pieces in the collections of folks ranging from billionaire Paul Allen to Billy Gibbons. If you look at the video in the "News" section of the Pheo website <www.pheoguitars.com> you will get a taste of Phil's insanity and creativity. DestroyAllGuitars is proud to announce that we are going to be Pheo's exclusive rep. We are offering an introductory piece at an absolute bargain price. The guitar being offered is the UN. This guitar would sell out of his Pheo gallery for a minimum price of $3000 but we're offering it for $1949 as our way of launching the DestroyAllGuitars / Pheo relationship. These are "art guitars" and well off the beaten path but they are all very functional and surprisingly gorgeous sounding. The UN, besides having some truly wonderful Strat-like tones, also has a tremendous amount of flexibility as the pickups are mounted on a typewriter tab mechanism that allows for their full movement and placement within the pickup cavity! The Pheo UN "The UN was designed to capture the sound of a ’55 Stratocaster that I once owned. The body is swamp ash. The neck is maple with a maple cap, 25 1/2 inch scale, 16 inch radius. The pickups are an outstanding ’66 6.4k Mustang pickup at the neck, and a Fralin, custom wound hot, with 43 wire and a bottom plate, at the bridge. One of the coolest things about the pickups is that they are mounted on a mechanism from a typewriter that allows repositioning on the fly. You can fiddle with the relative positions of the pickups to get whatever two pickup, “quack” tone you desire." - Phil Sylvester About Phil Sylvester "My last twenty five years have been spent as a fine art painter, drawer, and sculptor. What I have learned from 20th Century master artists, Giacometti, Cezanne, Matisse, Johns, and others, is an economy of technique, doing what is necessary to get the job done, nothing more, nothing less. The work of these great artists is about expression above all, and all gratuitous craft is rigorously paired away. Most fine guitar making is obsessive about craft perfection. Mine is not. I strive to build instruments that sound exceptional, play beautifully, and are extremely interesting to look at. The instruments aren't gratuitously tidy or perfectionistic or consistent. I tear them apart and rebuild them until I find them exciting. Perfect guitars are great, but there are plenty of those. I'm searching for something more raw, more direct." - Phil Sylvester |
