~ Red Plate Amps ~ Located in Phoenix Arizona, Red Plate Amps is a guitar amplifier manufacturing company with a simple philosophy : "Get the cleans right first and the solo tones will follow". Designer/builder Henry Heistand started the company as a hobby in 2006 and by 2008 artists like Elvin Bishop, Tommy Castro, Ronnie Baker Brooks, Kid Andersen and Mighty Mike Schermer were transporting their "little red amps" to concert stages around the world. In tube amp circles, the term "Red Plate" usually refers to a tube running past its thermal limits but in the case of Red Plate Amps it is meant to convey the idea that the amps are all tube and sound great when overdriven. The company produces amplifiers that are built by hand using top quality components and no printed circuit boards. Henry played guitar professionally for several years in the '70's and ended that decade in electronics school (when tubes were still part of the curriculum). During the '80's he had a successful repair business in Omaha Nebraska (Music Mechanix) doing amp/keyboard/PA repair and warranty service for all the major musical instrument companies. Henry's thoughts on the Red Plate amp designs: "The all tube guitar amp has been around for 70 years and almost everything that can be done has already been done in one form or another, the trick is to improve your favorite elements of the old proven designs with a more intelligent layout and better component selection and then design ways to combine those elements into a new kind of amplifier. The modern amp designer has to remember to keep all the unnecessary stuff out of the signal path or the overtones and sustain go out the window. Sometimes you just have to rely on your ears instead of the calculator." Red Plate Amps is one of the few modern amp companies that still paste the actual schematic inside the amplifier cabinet.
