La Grange Guitars is a tribute to legendary instruments and guitarists of rock and blues history. Owner Benjamin W. builds each guitar to have that "special thing" that guitarists are all looking for, that unique "soul" that makes an instrument be much more than a nice piece of wood with strings, but a life companion.
When Benjamin was nearly 22 he had no clue what he should do with his life. He was born in Paris and grew up in a small village in the south of France. He had managed to save enough money to fly to New York and quickly found himself in front of a guitar store near 5th avenue, staring at an old Tele. The seller was a smiling little man who said nothing, only nodded and handed Benjamin the old Lady. From the very first tone, the feel and the sound took Benjamin over completely. He felt as if it was his lost soulmate. But...
He could not afford it.
A few years down the road Benjamin somehow ended up as a lawyer, but quit law before becoming 30, then founded an Internet company in the middle of the 90s, and then just quit everything and moved to Israel.
And, the sound of that old Lady was still playing in his head.
A few years later, a good friend asked him a simple question: what would you do if you just started from scratch? After few seconds, the answer struck. He would be a guitar builder! Benjamin was then lucky enough to meet master luthier Jacob Algrenati and to join his lutherie course in Tel-Aviv. The most important thing Benjamin has learned from Jacob is what makes a handmade instrument so special, beyond the quality of its materials, is the soul that the builder breathes into it.
Benjamin started building guitars, eager to start breathing his soul into the newly created guitars. But there are no shortcuts in life and years passed before he felt the moment had arrived, and the instruments he crafted have the spirit he so desired. Only then did he feel ready to take things one (huge!) step further and he created La Grange guitars.
La Grange guitars are reflections of the special moment in which the instrument and the musician become one. Each guitar is 100% handmade with passion and love, aiming for absolute perfection. Guitars that have something from the builder's soul in them, and some of that old Lady from the streets of Manhattan.
