Folks, here it is, GVCG #002 an Ultimate '55 Whiteguard Tele weighing in at 6 lbs, 13 ozs..

This is the first of the new line of GVCG Ultimate series guitars, which will be rolling out in 2009. Look for a large batch of T's and S's to follow, initially GVCG is doing a handful of stamped headstock prototypes, 7 total before the large run. Here is #002-

This guitar is another no excuses workhorse, and another where GVCG spared no lumber or labor to make special.

This guitar is delivering tone and feel that even the finest original examples cannot surpass. The body is a beautifully grained piece of Southern Swamp Ash, finished in a dead on '55 Whiteburst, with subtle pink and gray hues found on these mid to late 50's examples. This body is very light, dry and resonant. GVCG has chosen the finest woods they have ever used for the GVCG branded run.

The finish is of course 100% high solids Nitro that is painfully thin, and lets the wood breathe as it should. The grain on the back of this body and the pinkish gray hue of the finish is DEAD on for the mid 50's, and looks amazing.

The aging was worked very, very hard on for this one, with tons of subtle detail, checking, grime, play-wear, and overall vibe that is strictly GVCG.

The neck is a joy to play, very hard and tight grained maple that is hard as a rock, a large profile  soft "V" at around .970", 1st Fret. .

The frets are Dunlop 6105 series, polished to 12000 and shining like little jewels... The neck radius is the GVCG special; 7.25 gently into 9.5". The finish is applied very, very thin on this neck, and it plays and feels like a 50 year old piece of well loved wood.

The fingerboard edges are very rolled and smooth, you will feel like you have been playing this neck for a large portion of your life...

The pickups are screaming GVCG/Lollar Flatpole Alnico 3's, and have to be heard and cranked to be believed. They are lightly potted in beeswax, microphonic, and absolutely bursting with character and subtle tone. The tone of this guitar is unmatched within the realm of "new" instruments...

Other goodies include hand machined Brass saddles, a NOS CRL 3 way, NOS Belden cloth wire, a NOS  miltary GVCG #3  switchtip, handmade string tree, CTS pots, a NOS 50's Wax .05 Tone Cap, all of the usual GVCG appointments.

The sustain of this particular instrument is pretty incredible, bodies at this weight and grain pattern come along once in a long while only, the playability and action is wonderful, and the Flatpole Alnico 3 tone is an event that must be heard to be understood.

This is the next level of handmade instruments with "vintage" vibe and tone beyond any modern guitars.
