2009 Thorell Sweet "E" $8600

Based on the traditional archtop guitar, the Sweet "E" is a direct evolution from the great makers of the genre. The Sweet E has a traditional x-brace. It is a hollow body  acoustic with a full yet dark and lush sweetness across the whole spectrum. The more you dig in the more it responds, yet it is surprisingly good with feedback (because of the finely hand-tuned soundboard) for being a full sized acoustic archtop.  This is a guitar that pushes you with  responsive nuances that just aren't available in lesser instruments. The ivoroid wrapped fingerrest is hand chiseled from an ebony billet yielding a carving that is a one of a kind signature on each Sweet "E". The finger-jointed ebony tailpiece has a beautiful sculpted appearance from individual ebony pieces connected with subtle exposed jointery. There is a 3/16 solid hand milled string retainer embedded underneath  the top of the tailpiece. The bridge saddle rides on knurled ebony and brass thumbwheels. The finish is achieved by spraying a slightly darker honey amber toner on the body than the binding, which while more work than the standard blond finish, yields a result more pleasing to those who love vintage blonds.
