GVCG 1955 Flyweight Whiteguard YOU ARE VIEWING A SALES ARCHIVE ENTRY - THIS GUITAR HAS BEEN SOLD. IT IS POSTED HERE AS AN EXAMPLE OF PAST SALES. PLEASE CHECK THE "NEW ARRIVALS" SECTION FOR INSTRUMENTS THAT ARE IMMEDIATELY AVAILABLE
Here we have another killer, an Ultimate FLYWEIGHT '55 Flatpole, weighing in at 6 pounds, 4 ounces.
This guitar is another no excuses workhorse, delivering tone and feel that even the finest original examples cannot surpass. The body is a beautifully grained Southern Swamp Ash, finished in a '55 Whiteburst, with subtle pink and gray hues found on these mid to late 50's examples. This body is very light, dry and resonant. The finish is of course 100% high solids Nitro that is painfully thin, and lets the wood breathe as it should. Aging is meticulous with subtle texture and depth that is only GVCG.
The neck is insane on this one, very hard and tight grained rock maple, a medium profile - soft V, measures around .950 at the first fret. It is very comfy, not too big, but just right for late '55/'56. The frets are vintage sized, polished to 12000 and shining like little jewels...The neck radius is player-friendly GVGC compound, which is 7.25" into 9.5. The finish is applied very, very thin on this neck, and it plays and feels like a 50 year old piece of well loved wood. The fingerboard edges are very rolled and smooth, you will feel like you have been playing this neck for a large portion of your life...
The pickups are screaming GVCG/Lollar Flatpole Alnico 3's, and have to be heard and cranked to be believed. They are lightly potted in beeswax, microphonic, and absolutely bursting with character and subtle tone. The tone of this guitar is unmatched within the realm of "new" instruments...
Other goodies include hand machined saddles, an Original CRL 3 way switch from the 60's, NOS Belden cloth wire, a NOS "dakaware" switchtip, handmade round string tree, CTS pots, a NOS 50's Wax .05 Tone Cap, all of the usual GVCG appointments.
The sustain of this particular instrument is pretty incredible, Ash bodies at this weight and grain pattern come along once in a long while only, the playability and action is wonderful, and the Flatpole tone is an event that must be heard to be understood.
She comes in a custom G&G case made for GVCG, AMber Snakeskin/Green Poodle interior and will be shipped via Fed Ex.
