100% N.O.S. COMPONENTS
Below you will find a few of the Rambunctious Rangemaster clones that GVCG has been making recently, each one is meticulously assembled from NOS parts of the 50's and 60's, every screw, switch, cap and pot is old. Detailed descriptions with each effect unit below. Jonathan of GVCG Guitars is building these from old Military surplus parts, a few Helicopter cockpit switches, and any thing else of extreme quality and durability he can get his hands on. UPDATE*****Feb 2010, Jonathan has procured a decent sized pile of NOS 60's Ducati capacitors, rarest of rare, some of the finest caps ever made, and will be using them until they are gone, this whole run has 'em!
Favorite pieces like NOS Allen Bradley type J pots, Mullard and RCA Germanium Transistors, polished aluminum Bourns sealed trimmer resistors, Carbon Comp resistors, NOS Wax capacitors, NOS 60's Belden wire, heavy duty 10 amp switches, sealed waterproof aircraft switches and many more vintage treasures abound in this batch of unique boxes. Jonathan is building these to last.
The effect is a clone of Jonathan's favorite effect ever for guitar, The Dallas Rangemaster. He has studied this beloved circuit, paired this effect up with his GVCG #1 Tele, then tweaked the circuit endlessly, and this is it: The GVCG sound, raw, overdriven, a touch impolite, and most of all, expressive and beautiful. Think of it as a "Vintage Boost," not a Fuzz, with instant Germanium Hi-Fi qualities when you roll the Volume back, and try to grab a $100 off the dashboard when you crank it and unleash your inner "LaGrange"...
Each of these units are of the same design, and although the brand of components will vary, every one is the same circuit tweaked for the individual Germanium device, so there is variation, just as in the originals.
These funky boxes sound old, they are full of tone and character that just could not be achieved with new components, every one of these Jonathan has tried to make with as much personality as possible, just as he makes the guitars.
