~ Schaefer Guitars ~

Ed's Schaefer's love for music & musical instruments has roots dating back to his great grandfather being a finisher at Steinway & Son Piano Co., in Queens , NY and his father being a pianist and having his own radio show in the late 1940's in Baltimore , MD. As a classical guitar major in college, in the early 70's, Ed held a job working as a repair technician at Rhythm Band Instrument Co. in Ft. Worth, TX (R.B.I. was a sister company of International Music Corp). Ed began building guitars at this time focusing on classical guitars. Little was know on the subject and less was available in the form of one book. He had little money and a poor place to work….his living room!

Today Ed works in a cozy “Home Shop” in Bastrop , TX . Creating his coveted archtop guitars and has recently introduced two new lines . . . his “Hamilton Headless” built for Fred Hamilton (Director of University of North Texas Guitar Dept.) and the new “Fretmaster” (a lightweight chambered solid body featuring state-of-the-art electronics).

DAG REPRESENTS CUSTOM COMMISSIONS FOR THIS BUILDER!
DAG represents custom commissions for Ed Schaefer. We can only handle a limited amount per year and they are on a first come-first served basis with typical wait times ranging from 6 to 10 months. If interested please call for a preliminary discussion in regard to the guitar you'd like to have Ed build for you. If scheduling permits and it's an instrument that Ed is interested in building, we will proceed to the next step and have you consulting directly with Ed to work out all the fine details, as well as pricing and deposits, before the build commences.
