The Soloway Swans

Soloway guitars are available in two basic shapes: The Swan, and The Little Wing. The difference between the two is the shape of the treble side cutaway. The Swan cutaway is pointed and swept downward while the Little Wing cutaway is rounded and more traditional.

Each of these shapes is available in two variations: The Original, and The Contour. The Original has a flat top and the edges usually feature binding (it's also available with an optional single tear drop shaped sound hole on the bass side of the body). The Contour has rounded edges and an optional arm cut on the bass side of the body.

Regardless of the shape or variation, all of Soloway's bodies share the same basic construction, featuring a solid 1/4 inch top and a two piece back with a solid center core, an elongated chamber on the bass side, two smaller chambers on the treble side (one for the controls and a second in the lower bout), a deep belly cut, and a contoured neck joint.

THE BODY:

All of the Soloway bodies have the same basic construction: a solid center core flanked by a single elongated chamber on the bass side and two adjacent chambers on the treble side. On the Original and No-Hole models, the bass side chamber runs virtually the entire length of the body. On the Contour model, the bass side chamber is shortened to allow the arm contour.

THE NECK:

The standard neck is constructed from a single piece of maple with a pair of graphite reinforcing rods running the length of the fingerboard (other woods and a three piece laminated neck are available as options). The fingerboard features a very flat 16 inch radius. The peg head tilts back at a 10 degree angle. The vintage style one-way truss rod keep the weight down and is conveniently accessible from the top of the neck.

The neck is available in two profiles: The Original, and The American Standard (AmStan). The thickness for the AmStan is .810 at the first fret and .890 at the octave. The thickness of the original is .775 at the first fret and .850 at octave. The width at the nut for both profiles is 1 11/16th inches.

Electronics & Pickups:

In standard configuration, the Soloway Swan long neck guitars are equipped with a pair of Dimarzio pickups. Soloway finds their lower output models to be especially well matched with Soloway guitars: clear and articulate, yet warm and versatile. The most common combinations are the Air Classic, PAF Classic, or Bluesbucker in the neck position and the Air Zone or Mo'Joe in the bridge position. For SwanCaster style guitars, the standard pickups are the noise free Area 58 and Heavy Blues 2.

Other pickup makers that Soloway uses frequently are Vintage Vibe, TV Jones, Lindy Fralin and Lollar. Other brands are available on request.

They also offer a variety of control layouts, and on advance orders are happy to provide custom configurations. For humbucker equipped guitars, the most common layouts include:

- A single volume control and a single tone control with a 3 way pickup selector and a mini-toggle switch for coil splitting.

- A 5 way multipole switch allowing a variety of wiring options. The most common configuration is 1) neck humbucking; 2) bridge/neck outside coils; 3) bridge & neck full humbucking; 4) bridge/neck inside coils; 5) bridge humbucking

On SwanCaster style guitars, the most common control layout is a 5 way switch with a master volume and individual tone controls for the neck and bridge pickups.

Additional control layouts are available on request.
