Another daring masterpiece from Alquier has arrived for sale - the Ethiq. This one, like Alquier's Fastback models, takes its design cues from automotive fashions of the twentieth century.
The "Ethiq" moniker makes sense when you realize this entire guitar is made with bamboo (body, neck, fretboard and pickup covers), a material that can be produced much more sustainably than wood due to its rapid growth rate (often over an inch per hour!). Bamboo has the tensile strength of steel and doesn't shrink or swell like wood. With custom pickups made by Benedetti - splittable humbuckers in neck and bridge and a single coil in the middle you'll have full range of sounds at your fingertips. Also on board are a 6 way toggle switch, Hipshot tuners, Bourns pots and a Wilkinson tremolo. Operating instructions included.
Asked about the “magic” of his own designs and what he thinks sets them apart, Alquier says his main goal is “to simply do the best I can do and in the most sincere way.” He then quotes French composer Erik Satie, who said, “I’ve never written a note that was not sincere,” adding, “I feel the same way about guitar building.”
